The Australian International School Malaysia (AISM)'s Adventure Race, scheduled on Sunday, 12 October 2014, is an event organised in partnership with the Malaysian Australian Business Council (MABC), the Malaysia Australia Alumni Council (MAAC), the Malaysian Australian New Zealand Association (MANZA) and the Malaysian New Zealand Chamber of Commerce (MNZCC). The event saw members from these associations, AISM’s community and the public using their own cars for a fun and challenging treasure hunt across the southern Klang Valley.
As part of the Matilda Project, the Adventure Race seeks to raise funds to aid 30 underprivileged children in Asrama Desa Pukak (ADP), Sabah to access primary education. These children, who live well below the poverty line, would otherwise need to walk for more than four hours to get to their school every day. The hostel provides a housemother who looks after the children during the weekday and the children return to their families over the weekends. Since 2010, the staff and students of AISM have supported and sponsored the living expenses of these children through fundraising activities and a Walkathon.
Participants of 12 years and above joined the fun-filled and exciting half-day event, which took them to several areas around southern Klang Valley, answering riddles and obtaining hidden treasures along the way. Expected to show up in Aussie-themed colours – green and gold - during the event, participants flagged off from the campus of AISM and ended back at the school, with last three challenges to be completed there. The grand winner of the Adventure Race went home with RM2,000 in cash and a hamper full of goodies. Cash prizes were awarded up to the third position and the best dressed team for the race also stand a chance to win a prize.
Every year the AISM community donates more than RM 60,000  towards this cause. AISM students and teachers also organise a yearly expedition to ADP as part of its service learning programme. Students teach at the children’s primary school, organise activities and refurbish the hostel facilities during their stay. This year the Adventure Race targets to collect RM 10,000 for the Matilda Project.
